Unions jointly call for increased resources for Borders and Coastguards

The clerical union the GGCA and Unite the Union have called for increased resources for the Borders and Coastguards Agency.

The unions say despite significant under- resourcing, the team has remained committed to upholding the highest standards in their efforts to protect national security.

In a rare joint statement, the unions say by working together they aim to strengthen their advocacy efforts and ensure Borders and Coastguards feel the support of the community.

They say officers have carried out their duties, ensuring that immigration processes are conducted efficiently despite operational hurdles.

They say demands on immigration services are continuously growing and fast, and the absence of adequate funding, resources, training, and essential equipment will make it progressively harder to maintain this level of performance.

The unions call on the Government and other stakeholders to jointly recognise the indispensable role that the Borders & Coastguard Agency plays in the national framework, and say adequate funding is not only a necessity, but an investment in the future security of Gibraltar.
